On April 23, 2019, Fragrance
Creators Association held a meeting
with Dr. Linda Katz, Director of the
Food and Drug Administration’s
(FDA) Office of Cosmetics and
Colors, and members of her senior
staff to obtain clarity about FDA’s
thinking and needs related to allergen
communication.
Also attended by Fragrance
Creators Board Members, members,
and representatives from the
Research Institute for Fragrance
Materials (RIFM) and the Personal
Care Products Council (PCPC), the
meeting was positive and highly
productive, with experts and industry
representatives expanding dialogue and
furthering education about industry
safety efforts, including how fragrance
ingredients are assessed for safety.
Fragrance Creators also previewed The
Fragrance Conservatory, its consumer-
targeted website aimed at educating
the public about fragrance creation,
ingredients, safety, benefits, and more.
Fragrance Creators understands
that FDA, in promoting its public
health mission, is interested in
communication surrounding allergens,
and believes industry can serve a
key role in educating appropriate
audiences—whether in a supportive or
proactive capacity, or both.
Per FDA request, Fragrance Creators
will schedule another meeting with the
agency in the near future.
Fragrance Creators expresses
appreciation to RIFM, PCPC, and its
member companies that participated:
Arylessence, Chanel, Estee Lauder
Companies, Johnson & Johnson, The
Procter & Gamble Company, Revlon,
Inc., and Robertet USA.
