ASSOCIATION NEWS Fragrance Creators Debuts The Fragrance Conservatory at Meeting with FDA The positive, productive meeting on ingredient communication yielded opportunities for further education, dialogue The Fragrance Conservatory is a consumer website Fragrance Creators is developing with clear, engaging content on fragrance, fragrance ingredients, and fragrance safety for launch in late 2019. 20 | FRAGRANCENOTES.ORG | Issue 2, 2019 On April 23, 2019, Fragrance Creators Association held a meeting with Dr. Linda Katz, Director of the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Office of Cosmetics and Colors, and members of her senior staff to obtain clarity about FDA’s thinking and needs related to allergen communication. Also attended by Fragrance Creators Board Members, members, and representatives from the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) and the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC), the meeting was positive and highly productive, with experts and industry representatives expanding dialogue and furthering education about industry safety efforts, including how fragrance ingredients are assessed for safety. Fragrance Creators also previewed The Fragrance Conservatory, its consumer- targeted website aimed at educating the public about fragrance creation, ingredients, safety, benefits, and more. Fragrance Creators understands that FDA, in promoting its public health mission, is interested in communication surrounding allergens, and believes industry can serve a key role in educating appropriate audiences—whether in a supportive or proactive capacity, or both. Per FDA request, Fragrance Creators will schedule another meeting with the agency in the near future.
