Fragrance Creators Association has
named John Carey, Senior Manager,
Global Regulatory Services at Firmenich,
as the recipient of its inaugural Rising
Leader Award. John is a passionate and
unwavering supporter of the association’s
strategic efforts to drive the fragrance
industry forward. Introduced in 2018, the
annual Rising Leader Award acknowledges
emerging industry professionals who
have shown a commitment to Fragrance
Creators and the fragrance industry at-large.
John is an active member of Fragrance
Creators’ Government & Legislative
Affairs Executive Committee (GLAEC)
and the Regulatory Science Executive
Committee (RSEC). He takes his
involvement with each committee
further by joining task forces and ad hoc
working groups, sharing his expertise
and understanding of legal text using his
keen insights and critical thinking skills.
He has made significant contributions to
our efforts in key areas, including TSCA
implementation; fragrance ingredient
communication, e.g., California Cleaning
Product Right to Know Act (SB 258);
the Congressional Fragrance Caucus;
and other priority advocacy issues. He
also regularly participates in Fragrance
Creators’ strategic advocacy events,
including federal and state lobby days and
Capitol Hill perfumery events, where he
effectively communicates with legislators
and staff about fragrance safety, regulatory
questions, and potential impacts on
fragrance businesses.
“I’m proud of John and his
contributions on behalf of our industry,”
said Robert Weinstein, Ph.D., CEO of
Robertet USA and Chairman of Fragrance
Creators’ Board of Directors. “His efforts
have helped to further our mission to serve
as the voice of the fragrance industry.”
“John understands the need for
communicating the importance of
promoting safety while also conveying the
importance and benefits of fragrance in
our everyday lives,” said Farah K. Ahmed,
President & CEO of Fragrance Creators.
“This is a critical piece of our approach
to advocacy, education, and elevating
everyone’s appreciation of fragrance’s
ability to enhance lives.”
John joined Firmenich in 2015 as a
Regulatory Affairs Manager. Prior to
that, he was a Products Liability Litigator
at a large law firm. He is a graduate of
Villanova University and Notre Dame
Law School and also spent a year at
London School of Economics and Political
Science. Between college and law school,
he worked as a ski instructor in Telluride,
Colorado.
The inaugural award will be presented
at Fragrance Creators’ 2018 Annual
Meeting on November 13, 2018, in
Weehawken, NJ. The association also will
make a $2,000 donation to the charity of
John’s choice.
On behalf of our membership,
Fragrance Creators applauds John for his
hard work and dedication to promoting and
protecting fragrance. FN
